Russia is ready to launch a preemptive response to NATO actions that threaten the security of the state. This was announced to RIA Novosti on June 23 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.

This is how he commented on reports about the call by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to strengthen the alliance by 400% and build up air and missile defense.

"Our response will depend on emerging threats. I would like to note once again that in response to any hostile actions against Russia, we will take all necessary countermeasures, including pre—emptive ones," Grushko said.

According to Grushko, the country should perceive this NATO initiative to supposedly protect itself from the Russian Federation as recognition by the alliance of the might of the Armed Forces of the state. At the same time, he clarified that at the moment it is impossible to predict how soon NATO will increase its defense potential.

Earlier in the day, Grushko told Izvestia that Russia sees no desire on the part of NATO countries to strengthen their security through the formation of normal relations with the state. According to him, what is happening in NATO is not a momentary change in the political situation, but a fundamental one.

Prior to that, on June 9, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO's statements about strengthening the alliance by 400% were an instrument of aggression and confrontation, rather than a mechanism for maintaining stability and security in Europe.
