Ex-Hyundai plant in Russia can be loaded with assembly of GAC machines

Three models of the Chinese brand GAC will begin to be assembled at the plant in Russia at the plant in St. Petersburg, where Hyundai and Kia cars were previously produced, and now they produce cars of the domestic brand Solaris. This was reported on June 23 by the Chinese Cars portal.
According to a source familiar with the certification process, the process of obtaining Vehicle Type Approval for three Russian-built GAC models is currently underway. These are the compact GS3 crossover, the large GS8 SUV and the M8 minivan.
In March, Pavel Nikiforov, head of sales development at GAC Motor Russia, told Izvestia that GAC intends to launch production of cars in Russia, is negotiating with a number of local manufacturers and is in the process of discussing the site.
The former plant of the South Korean Hyundai concern in St. Petersburg, acquired by the Russian company Art Finance, was renamed the AGR Automobile Plant in early 2024. Solaris brand cars are renamed Hyundai and Kia and are produced in full cycle mode. The model range includes HC crossovers (Hyundai Creta), KRS sedan (Kia Rio), KRX cross hatchback (Kia Rio X) and HS sedan (Hyundai Solaris).
On March 28, it was reported that the St. Petersburg Automobile Plant AGR has produced 30 thousand cars of the Russian brand Solaris since the restart of the enterprise in February last year. The Solaris KRX has become an anniversary.
