The State Duma proposed to increase New Year's holidays to 12 days in 2026.
New Year's holidays in 2026 may be extended up to and including January 11 due to calendar days off. This was announced on June 23 by Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs (LDPR).
The deputy clarified that December 31 of this year has already been declared a day off, and official holidays will last from January 1 to January 8, 2026. In this case, the first working day is Friday, January 9th, followed by Saturday and Sunday.
"Therefore, the government obviously has the opportunity to make January 9 a weekend, too, which I think it's logical to do and include it in the production calendar," TASS quoted the head of the committee as saying.
According to Nilov, in modern realities, people's stress and anxiety levels are very high, so they need to have a good rest.
State Duma deputy Svetlana Bessarab told on June 19 when a woman has the right to additional breaks from work. She clarified that they are prescribed for women with children under one and a half years old. If there are two or more children, the break increases to an hour, the deputy added.
