A helicopter-type unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a fundamentally new control system was developed at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky. Sergey Chernyshev, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and scientific director of TsAGI, told Izvestia about this in an interview.

"Conventional helicopters use complex mechanisms (like an automatic skewer — Ed.), especially in coaxial circuits, where the device is even more complicated. In the new project, control is provided by two tail beams with adjustable nozzles," the scientist explained.

According to him, by changing the direction and strength of the air jets, the system creates the necessary conditions for the helicopter to fly and maneuver stably. This solution is simpler and more efficient than traditional systems.

In addition, the academician said, the institute's specialists have developed an aircraft with a fixed-wing rotor in flight. It combines the qualities of a helicopter and an airplane — it takes off vertically, hovers in space, but at the same time can reach high speed in horizontal flight. Such an aircraft can be operated as an air taxi.
