The European Union (EU) needs to lift bans on oil and gas supplies from Russia, as the conflict between Israel, the United States and Iran could lead to a significant increase in energy prices. This was announced on June 22 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after a meeting of the defense council convened in connection with the escalation in the Middle East.

"We will have to face a further increase in energy prices, this is now a serious danger," the Index portal quotes him as saying.

He stressed that the EU's bans on Russian energy supplies put the countries' economies at risk, as the conflict in the Middle East has already affected oil and gas prices.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said on June 16 that the European Commission's (EC) plan to abandon Russian energy resources, developed under pressure from Ukraine, would harm the interests of the entire EU. According to him, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed this in order to deprive Hungary and the whole of Europe of Russian energy.
