The man who staged the terrorist attack in the Damascus church was a member of the IG

The suicide bomber who blew himself up in St. Elijah's Church in eastern Damascus was a member of the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported on June 22 by the Syria TV channel with reference to the country's Interior Ministry.

"These terrorist acts will not stop the efforts of the Syrian state to achieve civil peace," the Telegram channel of the publication says.

It is specified that 53 people were injured in the terrorist attack. Specialized teams have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

"There are about 25 dead, this is a preliminary figure, now two more explosions have occurred, two cars have exploded," a local resident of Damascus said in an interview with Izvestia.

The terrorist attack became known earlier that day. It was clarified that the attack was carried out in the Duvale quarter, where the Christian population lives.
