A march in support of the arrested Samvel Karapetyan was held in Armenia.


The march in support of Samvel Karapetyan reached the cathedral in Vagharshapat in Armenia. The footage is published by Izvestia on June 22.
Opposition supporters held portraits of Karapetyan in their hands and chanted slogans in his support.
Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II called the persecution of businessman Samvel Karapetyan by the Armenian authorities illegal. According to him, the case against Karapetyan is a form of pressure for his public support of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
"It is impossible to create virtue through hatred and enmity, and you will never build a homeland through repression," Sputnik Armenia quoted him as saying to the believers gathered at the church.
Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. On the same day, he was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia. After that, protesters began to gather in the streets in support of the philanthropist. Armenian politician Arman Abovyan called the businessman's detention an attempt to weaken the influence of the APC.
On June 20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was closely monitoring the case of businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan. According to him, if necessary, Russia will be ready to provide him with all necessary assistance.
