The US attack on Iran's nuclear facilities was not carried out to overthrow the government in the Islamic Republic. This was announced on June 22 by Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth.

"This mission was not related to regime change," he said at a press conference in Washington.

He noted that the strikes were authorized by US President Donald Trump only in order to neutralize the threat that the Iranian nuclear program allegedly poses to the United States and Israel.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced that the US attack was aimed at three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. According to Trump, the operation was successful. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that American strikes could change history.
