Previous history textbooks lacked reliable information about the events of the Great Patriotic War (WWII). This was announced on June 22 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the authors of history textbooks.
He said that he was surprised to see "anything" in some publications, but not the truth. In addition, Putin stressed that many of these textbooks were published with the support of foreign grants, which could influence the presentation of historical facts.
