If the right to self-defense is applied without taking into account the Charter of the United Nations (UN), complete chaos will ensue. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on the Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.

Answering a question from journalist Pavel Zarubin about the West's reaction to these airstrikes, the Russian Foreign Minister called Western leaders "cynics", emphasizing their double standards.

"Well, these are the biggest cynics there, and the rest say that Israel has the right to self-defense, so [French President Emmanuel] Macron said so," Lavrov said in an interview fragment dated June 20, published on the Telegram channel of journalist Pavel Zarubin on June 22.

According to the Minister, the arbitrary use of the right to self-defense without regard to the UN Charter undermines the foundations of international order and leads to chaos. He pointed out that such logic, in which countries independently decide when and how to apply such a right, is fraught with the destruction of the global security system and the approach to World War III, as Russian President Vladimir Putin noted earlier, Lavrov said.

On June 21, Deputy Minister of Health of the Islamic Republic Abdolrahman Rostamyan reported that at least 430 people were killed and at least 3.5 thousand injured as a result of Israeli strikes on Iran.

Israel struck Iran on June 13 and declared a state of emergency in the country. At that time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that the purpose of the military operation was to strike at Iran's nuclear infrastructure. In response, the Islamic Republic launched several waves of missile attacks.
