The expert spoke about the danger of a possible radioactive cloud from Iran

If a serious leak occurs at Iran's nuclear facilities after the US strikes, the radioactive cloud will move downwind, and the territories of many states may be at risk of infection. Igor Nikulin, a former member of the United Nations (UN) Disarmament Commission, told Izvestia on June 22.
"This poses a big threat to all countries. <...> The radioactive cloud will move depending on the wind gusts. Where can it turn? Anywhere. And towards India, towards China, towards North Africa, towards Israel, the same. It is very difficult to calculate," he said.
The expert also pointed out the risk of contamination of groundwater, which, in turn, can pollute Iran's water sources.
"If a [nuclear] facility has been destroyed, then most likely the contamination there is very serious. If, after all, he withstood the impact of these American bunker bombs, it means that everything is more or less. However, the Iranians claim that they have already evacuated everything from there. It is unknown where," Nikulin explained.
According to the expert, the attack by Washington is barbaric and has no international legal grounds, and US President Donald Trump went along with Israel and made a mistake.
"In fact, the same events took place in Libya, Iraq, and Syria. First an ultimatum, then some groundless claims. Neither the IAEA nor the United States could provide any evidence. But, nevertheless, the aggression took place. It's just an attempt to destroy a strong sovereign state in the Middle East. Well, and cause global chaos," he concluded.
Nikulin admitted that Washington could continue "senseless and merciless" military actions that would lead to thousands of victims.
The US attack on Iran's three nuclear facilities became known on June 21. US President Donald Trump said that the attack was aimed at three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. According to Trump, the operation was successful. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that American strikes could change history.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in turn, accused the United States of violating the UN Charter, international law and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The minister stressed that the attack from Washington would have lasting consequences.
