The foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) will meet on June 23 to discuss the conflict between Iran and Israel amid US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. This was announced on June 22 by the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.

"Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, as this would pose a threat to international security. EU foreign ministers will discuss the situation tomorrow," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

She also called on the parties to the conflict to step back from further escalation and return to the negotiating table.

The US attack on Iran's three nuclear facilities became known on June 21. US President Donald Trump said that the attack was aimed at three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. According to Trump, the operation was successful. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn, said that American strikes could change history.

Later, Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi said that the United States had violated the UN Charter and would face long-term consequences. The minister stressed that in accordance with the UN Charter, which allows for a legitimate response in self-defense, Iran reserves all possible options to protect its sovereignty, interests and people.

On the same day, NBC reported that the US presidential administration was preparing for a possible retaliatory strike from Iran, and the next 48 hours were of particular concern. As two representatives of the US Department of Defense and a senior White House official told the TV channel, it is not yet known whether Iran's retaliatory strikes will be directed at foreign or domestic facilities of the United States.
