In the Verkhnevilyuysky district of Yakutia, a leak of petroleum products occurred on the Vilyui River. This was announced on June 22 by the head of the district Valery Nikolaev.

"On the night of June 21-22, a spill of petroleum products on the Vilyu River was recorded in Verkhnevilyuysky ulus. Residents reported a pungent smell of diesel fuel. After receiving a message about a spill of petroleum products <...> an emergency meeting of the CES (Commission on Emergency Situations. — Ed.) in the district administration," reads a message on his Telegram channel.

He clarified that after inspections by Rosprirodnadzor, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and local services, an oil slick with a width of 3 to 15 m was discovered. The source of the spill has not yet been identified, and work is underway to determine the causes of the incident. Pumping of water from the river has been suspended to prevent further pollution.

"Immediately after receiving the signal, rescuers from the Vilyuysky search and rescue squad were sent to the scene. Two rescuers, two representatives of the local administration and one watercraft are involved in the operation," the press service of the regional Ministry of Civil Defense and Ensuring the Safety of the population told TASS.

On June 9, it was reported that a leak of petroleum products occurred in the Kazachinsky threshold of the Yenisei River in the Krasnoyarsk Territory due to damage to the hull of the ship. The investigators have begun conducting procedural checks under Article 247 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violations of the rules for handling environmentally hazardous substances"). Later that day, it was reported that the amount of fuel leaked from the ship had increased to 30 tons.

Later, on June 12, a municipal emergency mode was declared in the Krasnoyarsk Territory due to the incident.
