- Pushilin spoke about the progress of the Russian Armed Forces fighters in the Dnipropetrovsk region

The advance of Russian troops towards the Dnipropetrovsk region as part of a special military operation is explained not only by the desire to create a sanitary zone, but also by the "logic of warfare." Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), announced this on June 21 in the Izvestia studio at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).
"There should be a task here — to liberate the settlement of Krasnoarmeysk. Without entering the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region, the coverage of the city would not have been possible," he explained.
Pushilin noted that the advance of Russian troops indicates the intention to surround the city instead of a direct attack, which could have undesirable consequences.
"Getting involved in urban battles is always difficult, and there are always certain risks. The coverage of cities, as we saw earlier with certain examples of the liberation of previous settlements, has its effect," the head of the DPR emphasized.
He added that the size of the created sanitary zone will depend on what kind of weapons the enemy will have.
Earlier in the day, Pushilin noted that the liberation of every settlement in the DPR is of critical importance to Russia. According to the head of the region, every meter of Russian land "is in the center of attention in the truest sense of the word."
