The key report of Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin at the SPIEF Energy Panel clearly demonstrated the inseparability of progress and energy. This was stated during the discussion by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rosneft, Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada.

"It was comprehensive, the way you showed that progress and energy are inseparable," Al-Sada addressed Sechin.

The head of the Board of Directors of Rosneft drew the audience's attention to the fact that, despite the active promotion of the idea of switching to renewable energy sources, the share of fossil energy sources in the energy mix has not changed in recent decades. He recalled that Igor Sechin mentioned in the report that fossil fuels account for 80% of the global energy mix.

"I would also like to take over as a baton from Mr. Sechin, and give you my comment. It's like food for thought: are we really moving from fossil fuels to renewable ones?", Al-Sada addressed the audience.

In his report, Sechin cited data from the International Energy Agency, according to which this year alone global investments in the development of so-called clean energy exceeded $2 trillion. "This is twice as much as in fossil fuels, which still account for almost 80% of global energy consumption," said the head of Rosneft.

He stressed that even doubling investments would not yield the desired result, as achieving zero emissions by 2050 would require more than $180 trillion in investments, meaning that on average, more than $7 trillion would have to be spent per year.

"In addition, regulators in different countries need to develop common technical standards for new energy sources, ensuring their universalization and rapid adaptation to any market," Sechin concluded.
