It is necessary to develop new strategies for the development of the north-east of Russia due to the growing competition in the Arctic. Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025), announced this at a final briefing on June 21.

According to him, the development of the Arctic requires investments in infrastructure that will help ensure a "full-fledged turn to the East."

"The inevitability of increased competition in the Arctic raises the question of a new northeastern state strategy for our country," Kobyakov said.

On June 18, Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, said that at the moment Russia is actively developing the Arctic in several directions. He noted that in terms of economic development, more than 3.7 thousand investment projects have already been launched, the volume of which is 11 trillion rubles. In addition, leading energy companies are already investing 30 trillion rubles in this territory.
