Sechin pointed to the ill-considered energy policy of the EU countries.

The abolition of subsidies for "green" energy in the United States shows that this country, unlike the European Union, is returning to a pragmatic policy, said Igor Sechin, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft. He made such a statement at the SPIEF 2025 Energy Panel.
"The ill—conceived strategy of abandoning traditional generation has already led to the fact that the cost of electricity in Europe today is five times higher than in the United States," said the head of Rosneft.
He recalled that in the United States, where electricity consumption has returned to growth after a decade of stagnation, the new administration is already reviewing its energy strategy in favor of traditional sources. In particular, US President Donald Trump has signed a number of decrees aimed at reviving the coal industry. The U.S. Department of Energy, in turn, raised its forecast for U.S. coal production this year by 6%, Sechin added.
