The protest movement in Serbia, including university blockades and mass demonstrations, has dealt a serious blow to the country's education system. This was announced on June 21 by the country's President Alexander Vucic.

"Today we are witnessing the largest exodus in history — more than during the Second and First World Wars. We are talking about thousands of people, not dozens, as some want to say," he said on TV Prva.

According to Vucic, several thousand students left Serbia for Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary.

He also stressed that he wants to avoid the situation that exists in Western countries when force is used against protesters.

Anti-government protests by students and the opposition began in Serbia after the events of November 2024, when 15 people died as a result of the collapse of the canopy of the railway station in Novi Sad. Shortly after the tragedy, Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and several other politicians resigned.

On March 8, 2025, former Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Vulin said that the West was using the protests of students and opposition figures in Serbia to further clash Belgrade with Moscow. He also announced that Brussels was preparing a project to overthrow Vucic.
