President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, having appointed Gennady Shapovalov as the new commander-in-chief of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), seeks to accelerate the mobilization process in the country. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper on June 20.

"Zelensky has appointed a new commander of the ground forces as Kiev seeks to update its top command staff and improve mobilization," the publication says.

According to the publication, Shapovalov will be responsible for recruiting new fighters into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The authors of the article acknowledged that the shortage of manpower in the Ukrainian army has become even more acute in recent months due to the advance of the Russian army on the front line.

On June 19, Zelensky signed a decree appointing Shapovalov to the post of the new commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Previously, this position was held by Mikhail Drapaty, who was transferred to the post of commander of the united forces of the country on June 3.
