The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on fake news about Zakharova's American citizenship.

The news about the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, having US citizenship is fake. This was announced on June 20 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Foreign agents have been lying about Maria Zakharova for years. A lot of fakes were planted, including about her alleged US citizenship and her daughter's place of birth," the agency said in a statement on its Telegram channel.

The ministry recalled that such speculation has been repeatedly refuted, and the fake news itself does not contain facts and is a "malicious cynical fiction."

On June 20, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025), Zakharova warned about the threat of fakes to international relations. According to her, they can also be created using modern technologies. She also mentioned the publication of the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Ermak, in which, according to her, historical facts were distorted.

In 2020, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry has already denied rumors that she and her family members have American citizenship. Then she stressed that none of them have foreign citizenship, residence permits and property outside the Russian Federation.
