In the Nizhny Novgorod region, an 18-year-old girl gave fraudsters a safe containing $100,000 to protect her father from alleged criminal liability. This was announced on June 20 in the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

It is specified that the unknown contacted the victim and introduced himself as an employee of the state security agencies. The fraudster intimidated the girl for two days, claiming that her father was suspected of treason. Wanting to save her father, the victim redid the safe with the required amount to the courier.

"A criminal case has been opened into this fact under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). During the operational search activities, the suspect was detained by the criminal investigation department of the Nizhny Novgorod police during a business trip to the territory of North Ossetia. The attacker turned out to be a 33-year—old previously convicted resident of Vladikavkaz," said Ekaterina Belchikova, head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for Nizhny Novgorod.

It is specified that the fraudster is currently in custody. The detainee confessed to the crime, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
