The head of the Italian Ministry of Defense stated that there are no grounds for the existence of NATO

NATO must establish contacts with the states of the Global South, otherwise the meaning of its existence will be lost. This was announced on June 20 by the head of the Italian Ministry of Defense Guido Crosetto.

"NATO no longer has any reason to exist. Once the Atlantic Ocean was the center of the world, now it's the whole world," the ANSA news agency quoted him as saying.

According to him, previously the center was "the United States and Europe," but now "there is everything else that needs to be built with relations." Guido also believes that NATO must meet its mission — the alliance was created to ensure peace and mutual defense. Now, in fulfilling this task, NATO needs to communicate with the Global South and is becoming something "fundamentally different," he added.

"Otherwise, we will not achieve the goal of ensuring security within the framework of the rules that apply to everyone," Guido stressed.
