Investigators have opened a criminal case against the director and owner of the Torpedo football club, who tried to bribe the referee in order to influence the outcome of the game. This was announced on June 20 by the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, Irin Volk.

It is specified that law enforcement officers detained Valery Skorodumov, director of Torpedo FC JSC, and Leonid Sobolev, co-founder of Sportivnaya-Stroitelnaya Companiya LLC, who acts as the owner of the club.

According to Volk, the defendants offered the chief referee over 1 million rubles for winning the match, awarding penalties to opponents or removing their player. Thus, the attackers, as part of an organized group, together with accomplices, tried to influence the outcome of at least three games.

During the search, law enforcement officers seized communications equipment, documents and other items of evidentiary value.

"The detainees have been charged with three crimes under part 2 of Article 184 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is being resolved," follows from a publication on Irina Volk's Telegram channel.

Earlier, on June 20, it was reported that investigative actions were being carried out against Sobolev and Skorodumov. At the same time, the team's work continues as normal. Then Sobolev's lawyer, Alexander Dobrovinsky, told Izvestia that his ward faced up to seven years in prison.
