Israeli attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran could result in a serious tragedy for several countries. Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, told Izvestia on June 20 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"It will be a disaster on a regional scale. You can't get away with just Iran's territory here. Obviously, the territories of several countries will be affected by radiation damage. Including, perhaps, Israel itself," he stressed in an interview with Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky.

According to him, Russian specialists are also at the NPP. He clarified that preventing an attack on Bushehr is the main task of our time.

The head of Rosatom added that other Iranian nuclear facilities had been attacked in one way or another. He noted that this led to a loss of electricity supply and possible problems with the enrichment facilities.

"We don't know the details. Judging by the estimates of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency. — Ed.) and our specialists who are there, the situation is, in principle, under control," concluded Likhachev.

The day before, Likhachev predicted a repeat of the Chernobyl scenario in the event of an Israeli attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant. He stressed that a catastrophe must not be allowed. The next day, on June 20, the head of Rosatom expressed the hope that the Israeli government had received signals about the consequences of a possible strike on the Bushehr station.
