The expert warned about dangerous schemes of scammers in mobile games

Over the past year alone, Minecraft has recorded 3 million attempts to infect devices with viruses through fake mods, in Roblox — 1.65 million, in Among Us — about 1 million, and in Brawl Stars — 310 thousand cases. Dmitry Morev, Director of Information Security at RuStore, told Izvestia on June 23 about new ways to deceive players who are actively used by intruders in popular mobile games.
Fake modifications and cheats that disguise themselves as useful add-ons are particularly dangerous, he said. They not only steal gaming accounts, but also gain access to bank cards, often linked to children's devices.
"Scammers require excessive permissions, for example, access to geolocation or a photo gallery, which is completely unnecessary for the game," Morev explained.
New cheating schemes include fake tournaments at Brawl Stars, where attackers pose as organizers and trick recovery codes to access accounts. In Roblox, scammers create exact copies of the official website, offering free game currency Robux.
"Scammers use the built—in WebView, which visually merges with the interface of the real Roblox, creating an almost indistinguishable image from the original," the expert noted.
To protect yourself, Morev recommended never entering data on third-party sites, even if they look like official ones. It is important to check the domain name — fake addresses often use similar, but not identical names. You should also avoid links in social networks and messengers that promise free gaming resources.
Two-factor authentication via email and installing updates only through official app stores will help minimize risks.
On April 14, Egorov told Izvestia that the owners of popular Russian-language Telegram channels are one of the priority targets for fraud attacks. According to him, the interception of access to channel management allows cybercriminals to extort money for the return of the channel, spread fakes, requests for financial assistance and malicious links.
