Contrary to the expectations of Russia's opponents, the unification of the country's peoples took place against the background of a special military operation. Igor Barinov, head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs (FADN), told Izvestia on June 20 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"In fact, not a single ethnic group or religious group is ignored by our opponents," said Barinov.

According to him, Russia's opponents are vainly directing a lot of efforts and resources to shake up internal political stability. For a long time, they believed that interethnic and interreligious relations were the weak point of the Russian Federation, the head of the FADN added. Barinov pointed out that the unity of peoples took place in Russia against the background of the CBA. This once again confirms the thesis that before each new common challenge, the inhabitants of the Russian Federation rally — this has happened historically.

The head of the agency cited the example of sociological research, according to which the level of common Russian-civic identity is consistently above 90%.

"Guys from all over our country, of different nationalities, of different faiths, are fighting shoulder to shoulder, defending the interests of our country in a special military operation," the head of the FADN emphasized.

He added that representatives of different nations who made friends on the battlefield broadcast their friendship later in everyday life. However, it is by no means possible to let all these processes take their course, says Barinov. It is necessary to respond promptly to all the challenges that the opponents bring.
