Yakov Bezel, General designer of the Moscow air defense system, passed away at the age of 86. This was announced on June 20 on the website of the Academy of Sciences of Aviation and Aeronautics.
"An outstanding scientist, he has made a huge contribution to Russian science and the defense capability of the state. Yakov Vladimirovich was not only a gifted designer, but also a talented teacher who raised a whole generation of extraordinarily thinking scientists," the publication says.
During his career, Bezel has published various scientific papers and books related to the history of the development of air defense. Thus, he left a "rich creative legacy."
Bezel was born in Moscow on June 30, 1938. In 1961, he graduated from the Faculty of Automation, Telemechanics and Computer Engineering at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute. As a student, he got a job at NII-5, the parent institute that specialized in creating an automated state air defense system.
As a young specialist, he managed to become the developer of an upgraded automated system for the radio engineering battalion, the Mezha-M and Mezha-200 regiments. Bezel was also engaged in the creation of automated systems based on a new element design and technological base for the Radio Engineering Forces. Subsequently, it was under his leadership that the centralized missile defense system of Moscow and the Moscow region was developed.
