The government should support news aggregators and media outlets, which have begun to lose their credibility and audience due to the trend of audience switching to messengers and marketplaces. This was stated on June 20 by Sergey Boyarsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, to the Focus Mail portal on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"The role of reliable, guaranteed and professional consumption of information and its presentation is the role of large—scale mass media. Take the Zen platform, which has opened its data to Mediascop, and we can look at the structure of news consumption for the media — this is open information," Boyarsky said.

Against this background, new government services that are being prepared for launch using artificial intelligence (AI) technology should be based on trusted content that the government could rely on for its reliability.

"Our task is to protect domestic resources, our media, and protect the reader, if possible, from fakes, stuffing, deepfakes, and news generation by hostile AI. Today, in order to confuse a person, it is enough to download several primitive programs and upload messages into them that should mislead him," the speaker noted.

The parliamentarian stressed that decisions on this issue have been taken at the state level and will be improved. Legislative work awaits the deputies ahead.

On June 18, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia needs to communicate its point of view and the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Western public. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation also noted that in direct communication with Putin, foreign media for the most part do not distort the words of the Russian leader.
