The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) plan to expand the range of products with mandatory labeling, and the current and next years will be key to achieving uniform labeling coverage. Ruslan Davydov, Minister for Customs Cooperation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), told Izvestia on June 20 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).

"There are such plans, and in 2025-2026, our neighboring countries, partners in the union, should significantly expand product labeling coverage," he said.

According to Davydov, labeling is necessary to provide customers with authentic information about the goods so that they can choose high-quality products. The minister also stressed that Russia is now the leader in labeling goods, and other countries, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, plan to keep up with Russia in this indicator.

"[The EAEU] has a single customs space, a single customs territory, and there are no borders. If the product has entered somewhere illegally, there is a risk that it will then appear with us. And here, by the way, labeling should also help cut off this illegal segment," concluded Davydov.

On June 17, Izvestia reported on the development of a draft law by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Economic Development, in which the inscription "National goods" may appear on price tags and store shelves. It will be clarified that if approved, the new rules may enter into force on March 1, 2026, and the bill itself will affect only non—food products - food products will not fall under these requirements.
