- The State Duma pointed to the Russophobic policy of Riga after the ban on the purchase of housing by Russians

Latvia's ban on the purchase of real estate by citizens of Russia and Belarus should be considered as a manifestation of the Russophobic policy of the Baltic countries. Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, said this in an interview with Izvestia on June 20.
"This decision is related to the Russophobic policies that have been pursued in recent years by all countries, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. Because these non-states that feel damaged in the European Union and NATO countries, since they were once part of the Soviet Union, and they believe that they have this stigma of the Soviet republics, so they try to do everything possible to break off relations with our countries, with the Russian world. and they are introducing various draconian measures against our compatriots, our organizations, and legal entities," the source said.
Answering the question about whether other states can follow Latvia's example, the MP expressed the opinion that such actions are typical only for the Baltic States. He stressed that other countries are beginning to realize the need to review their relations with Russia against the background of global changes in international politics.
"We can only record once again that various international treaties are being violated, agreements that are signed by many countries, which have been recorded by many countries, including Latvia. And, of course, today, unfortunately, there is no international law," Vodolatsky stressed.
The deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee also added that Russia's reaction to Latvia's actions may manifest itself in restricting the transit of goods through this country, which will further worsen its economic situation. Further steps regarding Riga will depend on the general international situation and the position of other States.
On the same day, LSM reported that the Latvian authorities had banned citizens of Russia and Belarus from buying real estate in the country. The restrictions will also apply to legal entities from Russia and Belarus and to companies where at least 25% of the capital belongs to citizens of these countries or where they are the actual beneficiaries.
