- The political scientist called Trump's doubts about involvement in the conflict with Iran uncertainty.

US President Donald Trump's doubts about intervention or non-intervention in the conflict in the Middle East indicate his uncertainty about the outcome of American involvement in the fighting. This was stated by Sergey Balmasov, an expert at the Institute of the Middle East and an expert at the Russian Council on International Affairs, in an interview with Izvestia on June 20.
"A person rushes from one extreme to the other, and they seem to indicate uncertainty about the outcome of the same American intervention. In general, Trump will be criticized in any case," the source stressed.
The expert explained that if the president decides not to interfere, the Democrats will accuse him of not supporting Israel enough. At the same time, if he chooses to get involved in the conflict, his opponents will accuse him of violating promises about peacemaking.
In addition, if Trump decides to conduct airstrikes and they prove ineffective, this could negatively affect his reputation and the image of the United States in the international arena.
As for Trump's possible calculations regarding a quick end to the conflict over the next two weeks, the political scientist noted that perhaps the president hopes to persuade Iran to negotiate by using pressure through Israeli strikes.
"Perhaps, after all, Trump expects to persuade Iran on the basis of negotiations. There were moments when the Iranians demonstrated this possibility under certain circumstances. And Trump, I believe, still expects to put the squeeze on Iran with the help of Israeli strikes, without interfering himself, let's say, to solve this whole situation in this way. But, again, this may be a distraction," the expert said.
Nevertheless, he stressed that the United States continues to actively prepare for a possible military scenario. So, the strike group around Iran is currently strengthening.
In addition, Balmasov added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already asked the United States for support, which underscores the importance of American assistance to Israel. If Trump fails to provide the necessary assistance, it could negatively affect his image and Washington's status as Israel's main ally outside NATO.
On June 19, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt announced that Trump would make a decision on strikes against Iran within two weeks. The US president believes that there is a "significant probability" of negotiations with Iran on its nuclear program.
