Russia hopes that the Israeli government has received signals about the consequences of a possible strike on the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran. Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, told reporters on June 20 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).
"We really hope <...> that all our signals from yesterday have reached the Israeli government," he said.
The day before, Likhachev predicted a repeat of the Chernobyl scenario in the event of an Israeli attack on the Bushehr nuclear power plant. He stressed that a catastrophe must not be allowed.
Vladimir Demidov, an independent expert on the resources and energy market, also stated in an interview with Izvestia on June 17 that possible Israeli attacks on the Busherskaya NPP could lead to catastrophic consequences comparable to Chernobyl.
According to him, damage to cooling systems, which are one of the most vulnerable parts of nuclear power plants, can lead to a disaster of comparable scale.
