US President Donald Trump is postponing a decision on strikes against Iran for fear that the country could repeat the fate of Libya. This was reported on June 19 by the New York Post (NYP) newspaper, citing sources from the American administration.

"In recent days, the president has directly referred to the example of Libya, an oil—rich country in North Africa that, after the United States participated in NATO strikes against Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, was dragged into a decade of anarchy," the newspaper writes.

One of the sources familiar with Trump's considerations suggested that the head of the White House was leaning towards approving an order for targeted airstrikes using bunker bombs on Iran's nuclear facilities at Fordo and Natanz. The publication clarified that such weapons cannot be carried by Israeli aircraft.

White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced on June 19 that Trump intends to make a decision on strikes against Iran within two weeks. Later that day, journalist Seymour Hersh, citing Israeli and American sources, reported that Washington had already approved a plan for an Iranian attack, which he suggested might begin next weekend.
