Novak announced Russia's readiness to resume LNG supplies to Europe
Russia has not lost anything from the cessation of gas exports through Ukraine and is ready to resume supplies through the surviving branch of Nord Stream 2 if it sees the interest of European buyers. This was announced on June 19 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
"It is clear that this is the right and choice of Germany and European consumers to purchase gas through the appropriate infrastructure or not. In turn, Russia is ready to supply, if there is interest from European buyers, we will be ready to supply gas through the existing infrastructure," he said in an interview with Naila Askerzade on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the Nord Stream 2 line remains suitable for supplies, while the other three were damaged as a result of terrorist attacks.
Novak clarified that the Russian Federation has not lost anything from the cessation of gas exports through the territory of Ukraine, as Russia has increased the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to Europe anyway. According to him, the refusal to transit gas through Ukraine has only affected Europe, whose buyers are forced to replace cheaper, stable supplies of Russian LNG gas from world markets at higher prices.
The UnHerd newspaper reported on June 2 that the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz, insists on an eternal ban on cooperation with the Russian Federation in the form of supplies via the Nord Stream–2 gas pipeline, as this could ruin European industry. The article noted that the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe makes economic and strategic sense.
