A plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will be held on Friday, June 20. The central event of the event will traditionally be a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Izvestia is broadcasting the main session of the forum live.

For almost 10 years, the SPIEF has been held under the patronage and with the participation of the Russian leader, and 2025 will be no exception. The President's speech at the forum's plenary session was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. In the Izvestia studio at the SPIEF, the president's press secretary noted that the speech would be voluminous. According to him, Putin will assess the current stage of the country's economic development, as well as outline its main development directions and prospects.

According to Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, along with the head of state, Indonesian leader Prabowo Subianto, Vice Chairman of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, Vice President of South Africa Paul Mashatile, as well as a representative of Bahrain, who was awarded the honorary status of a guest country at SPIEF 2025, will take to the main stage of the forum.

The Russian president's work schedule at the SPIEF is quite busy. On the opening day of the forum, on June 18, the Head of state convened an economic meeting attended by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and other officials.

Putin also had a conversation with the president of the New Development Bank (NDB), former Brazilian leader Dilma Rousseff, discussing with her the further development of the financial institution, as well as the results of Russia's BRICS presidency in 2024.

In the evening of the same day, the President held a traditional meeting with the heads of world news agencies. The event lasted about two hours and ended after midnight. Representatives of 14 international news agencies, including from China, the USA, France, Germany, Spain, Great Britain and the CIS countries, had the opportunity to ask the Russian leader a question. During the meeting, issues of resolving the Ukrainian crisis, prospects for negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, Russia's relations with European states, the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East and other important topics were discussed.

On Thursday, June 19, Putin held full-scale talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. For the Indonesian leader, this visit to Russia was the first since taking office. The heads of state held two meetings in a closed format: in person and as part of delegations. After that, the signing ceremony of bilateral agreements, in particular the declaration on strategic partnership, took place.

In addition to participating in the SPIEF plenary session, on June 20, the Russian president is scheduled to meet with high-ranking foreign guests: National Security Adviser, Commander of the Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Bahrain Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Ding Xuexiang and OPEC Secretary General Haysam Al-Gais.
