The former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg will begin production of the new Lada Iskra model. This is stated in the message of AVTOVAZ, which was received by Izvestia on June 19.

The cooperation agreement between AvtoVAZ and Avtozavod Saint Petersburg (formerly Nissan) was signed in the presence of the city's governor, Alexander Beglov, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025). It provides for cooperation between the parties in the field of preparation and optimization of production processes and the start of assembly.

"The volume of production and the timing of its start will be determined by a special working group, which is also being established within the framework of the signed agreement," the statement said.

After the Japanese company left Russia, production of Xcite crossovers was launched at the former Nissan plant. According to the head of AVTOVAZ Maxim Sokolov, the company appreciated the high quality of the assembly of these models.

The loading of the enterprise "will ensure the preservation of the experienced team of the automobile plant and will give additional orders for the Russian component industry," Sokolov said.

Ivan Mironov, General Director of Avtozavod Saint Petersburg, promised to ensure "high quality of every car produced."

On April 19, AvtoVAZ launched production of the Lada Iskra model at the Tolyatti plant. The model will be available in three body styles: sedan, station wagon and Cross-wagon with black unpainted plastic elements on the body. The novelty will occupy a market niche between the Granta and Vesta models. The start of sales is scheduled for July 20, 2025.

On June 3, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, announced that about 8 thousand cars of this brand had been sold in Russia in the year since the start of sales of Xcite cars. During the same time, almost 20 thousand Xcite cars were assembled at the automobile plant in St. Petersburg (formerly Nissan).
