Murashko pointed to a reduction in life expectancy due to excess weight.

People who have a body mass index above 40 lose up to 10 years of life. This was announced on June 19 during the session "Food Security of Russia: challenges and Strategies" at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025) was presented by Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.
"People with excess body weight and a body mass index ranging from 30 to 35 lose an average of two to four years of life. People who have a body mass index above 40 lose up to 10 years of life," Murashko said.
In addition, he clarified that overweight people are more susceptible to such ailments as arterial hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and coronary heart disease.
"All this combined creates those challenges, these are additional costs for the healthcare system, these are additional losses and years of life," the head of the Ministry of Health added.
On April 2, Andrey Martyushev-Poklad, market expert at the National Technology Initiative (NTI) Helsnet, said that it is impossible to get rid of excess weight if a person has nutritional deficiencies, sleep disorders, or if he is in chronic social stress. According to the expert, a more competent approach to weight loss is to take into account the nutritional value of foods and the hormonal signals that food and other lifestyle factors trigger in the body.
