- The co-owner of Severstal spoke about the advantages of implementing AI in the company's work

PJSC Severstal is actively implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in its work processes. This was announced to Izvestia on June 19 by Alexander Shevelev, a member of the Board of directors and co-owner of the company, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).
"We really use artificial intelligence extensively. And big data models, and all kinds of algorithms, mathematical modeling, learning, and so on," Shevelev said.
According to him, projects that are implemented on the basis of artificial intelligence give the company about 2 billion rubles a year in additional profit before taxes. In addition, the member of the board of directors added that due to digitalization, the company expects to increase productivity by 10% in the next five years, as well as maximize the use of AI capabilities.
Shevelev said that due to artificial intelligence, the services of many employees will no longer be needed, but such a process will be gradual.
"It will obviously not be quick, and it will obviously be painless for employees, because it will be accompanied by an outflow for natural reasons," said the co—owner of Severstal.
On the same day, the head of Sberbank, German Gref, said that government regulation in the field of artificial intelligence development was inevitable. According to him, AI technologies, in addition to a huge number of advantages, carry a large number of risks. In addition, Gref urged not to rush into regulation, as this could negatively affect AI developers.
