Investigators have opened a criminal case against a 64-year-old man suspected of occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy. This was reported by the Telegram channel "MIA Media".

It is specified that the man was recognized as a so-called thief in law back in 1985. This allowed the attacker to control the activities of criminal structures in Russia.

"The person involved, who has been repeatedly brought to criminal responsibility, is allegedly hiding from investigative authorities abroad," the publication says.

At the moment, law enforcement officers are establishing the location of the man.

As RIA Novosti was told in law enforcement agencies, we are talking about the criminal boss Merab Dzhangveladze (Merab Sukhumsky).

Earlier, on May 28, a Moscow court sentenced thief-in-law Sergei Brazhensky, nicknamed Rams, to nine years and three months in prison in a high-security penal colony. It was clarified that he ran an organized criminal group (OCG) and attempted to sell drugs. The attacker also maintained contacts with other criminal authorities, including Shishkan (Oleg Medvedev).
