- A member of the Kenyan Parliament announced her intention to develop trade with Russia
Kenya intends to develop bilateral trade with Russia, as Moscow is open to foreign partners. This opinion was shared with a correspondent of Izvestia on June 19 by a member of the Kenyan Parliament, Catherine Omanyo, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).
"Russia is a very peaceful country, hospitable, with friendly people. I urge people to perceive Russia <...> as a country of investment opportunities. <...> Many people think that it is impossible to deal with Russians, that they are unfriendly. I don't think so," she said.
According to Omano, the atmosphere at the forum is very inclusive.
"I was very surprised to meet representatives from different African countries, from Europe and even from countries that I did not expect to see. Russia is a space for everyone. This idea of bringing together people from different fields, with different professions and specializations is really great," said the Kenyan parliamentarian.
She also added that she was delighted with the Russian cuisine and "would gladly take her home."
"It's so delicious. I noticed with what care chefs and chefs approach the preparation of dishes — their patience, creativity, attention to detail. It's completely different. I would like a Russian restaurant to appear in Kenya," she said.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the heads of international news agencies on the sidelines of the SPIEF, said that Russia's cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia is steadily developing, and trade volumes are growing. The President clarified that the purpose of the work at the SPIEF is to create ways to overcome difficulties for the development of world trade in today's difficult conditions.
