The expert listed the actions in case of loss of a passport abroad
Losing your passport abroad can be a source of serious anxiety. Onlinetours Sales Manager Svetlana Gerasimova shared with Izvestia on June 22 tips on how to act in such a situation.
The first step, according to the expert, is to contact the police of the country where you are located and report the loss. This will help prevent possible misuse of your document. The police will help you draw up a statement and issue a certificate of passport loss.
Then you need to visit the consulate or embassy of your country. To obtain a temporary document for returning home, you will need an internal passport (if any), a certificate from the police about the loss of your passport and two passport-sized photographs.
"If you don't have any documents with you, then there is another way to solve the problem: you need to find two witnesses with Russian passports. They should come with you to the embassy and confirm your identity," the sales manager emphasized.
The expert added that if the check is successful, the consular service will be able to issue a certificate of return to Russia within one or two working days.
To avoid future stress, Gerasimova recommended saving digital copies of important documents in advance in cloud storage or by e-mail.
Alexey Sonov, Head of the Palmira Palace Resort & SPA's booking department, told Izvestia on March 23 how to check into a hotel without a passport. According to him, some hotels may offer alternative accommodation methods, for example through biometrics, if the traveler's data is available in a Single Biometric system.
