- The French authorities allowed Telegram founder Durov to travel to the UAE for two weeks.
The French authorities allowed Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, who is under arrest there, to leave the country for two weeks from July 10 to Dubai (United Arab Emirates, UAE). The French newspaper Le Monde writes about this on June 19, citing its sources.
"Pavel Durov will be allowed to leave mainland France for a maximum of 14 consecutive days, starting on July 10, only to travel to Dubai, where his relatives live and where the offices of Telegram are located," the newspaper reported.
Earlier, French judicial control measures prohibited Durov from leaving France. In addition, he had to report to the police commissariat twice a week.
In an interview with the French magazine Le Point on June 18, Durov said that his office in Dubai is located in the same building as the French consulate. He also said that an employee of the special services at the embassy sometimes directly appealed to him with a request to "help in the fight against terrorism," as this is faster than organizing a legal procedure.
On June 9, the founder of the messenger, during an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, called his imprisonment in France a mistake. According to the entrepreneur, he was aware that the French authorities were concerned about Telegram's "alleged lack of response to court requests." However, as he later realized, this was not the case, because the messenger had never received legally binding requests from Paris.
