The development of Russia's only ferromanganese deposit has begun in the Zaporizhia region. This was announced to Izvestia on June 19 by Governor Yevgeny Balitsky as part of SPIEF 2025.

According to him, the deposit is the largest on the mainland — more than 80% of manganese in Eurasia is located in the territory of the Zaporizhia region.

"What was purchased in Gabon, South Africa, and Brazil will be produced and mined in the Zaporizhia region today. Plus, in the same fields, in almost the same places, we have large kaolin reserves, and of various types. We have both gold and platinum," Balitsky said.

The governor also commented on the agreement between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth metals. Balitsky believes that the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, does not care what to sell, because he understands: this territory does not belong to him.

"In fact, this is our land, and we will not give it to anyone with its resources and its people. These are our people. And therefore, all these transactions are a complete fiction," the Governor of the Zaporizhia region emphasized.

Earlier in the day, Oleg Kazanov, head of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use, said that the Russian Lovozerskoye deposits in the Murmansk Region and Tomtorskoye in Yakutia could provide rare earth metals (REM) not only to the Russian Federation, but also to the whole world. He noted that 11 million REM reserves out of 28.5 million tons are concentrated in these Russian deposits: 7 million tons in Lovozerskoye and 4 million tons in Tomtorskoye.
