Over the past day, 277 road accidents have occurred in Russia.
Over the past 24 hours, 277 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 22 people were killed and 352 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on June 19 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. 20 of the dead were passengers and drivers, the ministry said.
As a result of 62 accidents, 23 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 39 outside their area of operation, two pedestrians were killed, and another 60 were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 13 child pedestrians, seven of whom were injured while crossing the roadway at the designated location.
11 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 17 road users, including four children, needed medical attention. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
In addition, 55 accidents involving minors were registered over the past day, in which 59 young road users were injured, including 25 passengers, 10 cyclists and seven motor transport drivers. One child, a pedestrian, was killed.
In Ryazan, a car driver ran over a 13-year-old schoolgirl who was crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing on a scooter without dismounting. The victim, who was unaccompanied by adults, was hospitalized with injuries.
In Novorossiysk, a car driver ran over an 11-year-old pedestrian girl who was walking with her friend unaccompanied and ran across the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing. The girl died. At the same time, an unregulated pedestrian crossing is located 120 meters from the scene of the incident. Previously, the accident occurred due to the fact that the motorist did not see two young pedestrians suddenly running out from behind a car that stopped in the next lane.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists to strictly follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities in the summer. The behavior of children on the road is often unpredictable, therefore, when approaching pedestrian crossings, it is worthwhile to reduce speed in advance in order to be able to stop the vehicle in case of a sudden change in the traffic situation, the traffic police emphasize.
"We remind parents of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them on the road during the summer. Have an explanatory conversation with them about the rules of safe movement on a scooter or bicycle, paying special attention to the need to dismount when crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing, as well as the use of protective equipment. Children and teenagers need to be taught about traffic regulations, the dangers of entering the roadway and the need to follow the rules of safe behavior, especially when crossing the road," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The lack or negligence of parental control over the behavior and summer leisure of children often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, according to the State Traffic Inspectorate. Young children should not be allowed outside alone, without supervision, especially in the evening. In order for young pedestrians to be more visible to drivers at dusk or at night, it is necessary that they necessarily use retroreflective elements on their outerwear, the traffic police remind.
The day before, it became known that four people were injured in an accident in the Ulyanovsk region. According to preliminary data, the driver of the car did not give way to the truck when turning.
