- The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced the development of payment methods for Russians in Bali

The Indonesian authorities, within the framework of cooperation in BRICS, intend to develop ways of alternative payment methods for Russians who permanently reside on the island of Bali. This was announced on June 19 by Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Anindya Novyan Bakri at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2025).
He noted that Indonesia, as a developing young country, is thinking about creating its own digital infrastructure with prospects for its expansion in the future.
"In my opinion, 250 thousand Russians live permanently on the island of Bali. Making sure that they can pay using QR codes or maybe use some traditional and non-traditional currencies between the BRICS countries is a very important area of work," Bakri said at the session "Prospects for strengthening BRICS Business Partnership in a new format."
On June 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the heads of international news agencies on the sidelines of the SPIEF, noted that the world is changing dramatically, Asian countries are changing rapidly, and the structure of their economies is changing. He stressed that Russia has something to offer Indonesia in the field of high technology, and also announced a conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, which is scheduled for Thursday.
