The Finnish Parliament has supported the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines. This was announced on June 19 by the Yle television and radio company.

"157 deputies voted to withdraw from the agreement. 18 voted to remain in it. No one voted against it. 24 deputies were absent from the voting," the publication says.

According to the results of the vote, the use of anti-personnel mines will be allowed by the Finnish Defense Forces in the future.

On April 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Baltic states' statements about withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention were linked to benefits for NATO. She believes that these countries are aimed at developing cooperation with manufacturers of antipersonnel mines from the United States.
