China imports about 1.8 million barrels of oil from Iran daily, which is a significant part of the total volume of crude oil imports to China, and the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Tehran due to the escalation of the conflict with Israel will seriously affect Beijing's maritime trade. This was reported by Focus magazine on June 19.

It is noted that a significant part of China's maritime trade with the countries of the Persian Gulf and Europe is carried out through the Suez Canal and the Arabian Sea, while the closure of the Strait of Hormuz can seriously affect the trade route. Analysts believe that the possible loss of oil supplies from Iran for the Chinese side will seriously affect the sustainability of development and slow down the growth rate of the Chinese economy.

It is also assumed that Beijing can send a signal to Tehran that China, "which is fundamentally dependent on energy imports from abroad," will not tolerate the suspension of imports of Iranian oil.

According to the newspaper, China will use its influence and authority in the Middle East to avoid the consequences of an even greater escalation of the Israeli-Iranian conflict. In addition, Alexander Gerlach, an associate professor at the Gallatin School at New York University, believes that "if Iran is really going to block the Strait of Hormuz, then Chinese President Xi Jinping will make sure that Tehran stops this."

Earlier, on June 16, experts reported that the escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict would cause a further increase in Brent crude oil prices, up to $100 per barrel by the end of June. Against the background of the outbreak, raw materials have already risen in price to $78. In the future, the situation in the Middle East is capable of further accelerating global inflation — global stock markets have already reacted to these risks by falling.
