Zakharova spoke about the mechanisms of bilateral consultations with the United States.

The Kremlin is waiting for proposals from Washington to continue bilateral contacts to eliminate "irritants" in relations and is discussing the possibility of holding new meetings. This was announced on June 19 by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova.

"We currently have a mechanism for bilateral consultations, and two rounds have already been held on the so-called irritants in Russian-American relations. The third round of these consultations was about to take place. <...> these contacts are underway now," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Zakharova stressed that discussions are held on the line of embassies, as well as conducted by telephone. They are attended by both foreign ministers and heads of State.

The meeting is scheduled to take place soon.

On June 9, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia and the United States were moving in the right direction to normalize relations. He stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has developed a working relationship with US President Donald Trump.
