Russians do not intend to have children because they live for themselves and do not want to limit their freedom. This was announced on June 18 by the Director General of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM). Konstantin Abramov during a speech at the SPIEF Economic Forum.

"They (young people — Ed.) do not want to have children or want to postpone the birth date of their first child, as they want to live for themselves," Abramov said, describing the presented study.

According to the research provided by the CEO, the majority of respondents in the age range from 18 to 35 years noted that they do not have enough money to support a child, lack confidence in their ability to give their children proper upbringing and an ordinary reluctance to become parents, dictated by the desire to "live for today."

The head of VTsIOM noted that the steady priority of Russians to respect personal freedom, which is inferior to family values, has gradually formed over the past 30 years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 29 that family values are immutable for Russians. According to him, it is the family with children, their interests and well-being that are at the center of all decisions and projects related to national development.
