Military personnel of the TOR–M1 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) of the Center group of forces provided air cover for the positions of Russian units from reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Red Army area in the special operation zone. This was announced on June 19 by the Russian Defense Ministry.
The ministry noted that the calculation of the air defense system is on round-the-clock duty, during which they monitor the airspace. When air targets are detected, anti-aircraft gunners take them to escort, after which they launch anti-aircraft guided missiles with the control of lowering the target using a special visual control system inside the vehicle.
It is specified that military personnel destroy dozens of enemy UAVs every day and collect their fragments for further study. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, one of the last reconnaissance drones shot down over Russian positions was the Ukrainian Shark UAV aircraft-type reconnaissance UAV.
"The situation is tense, the enemy does not stop using UAVs. We try to shoot down everything, if possible <...> The type of Leleka and Valkyrie UAVs can be used specifically on us <...> it often happens that we have to quickly leave our positions," said Vadim Kusakin, commander of the TOR—M1 air defense system battery.
On June 18, the Ministry of Defense announced the defeat of the AFU deployment point by Russian military personnel. It is specified that the strike was carried out by the calculation of the Iskander tactical missile system (OTRK).
